Computer Science Website Changes

16–24 April 2007

• IMG research pages visible.
• Changes made to the logging, awstats and Google Analytics.
• Wikis reinstated.
• Many redirects and aliases updated to allow more old URLs to work.

11–13 April 2007

• The contents of www.cs.manchester.ac.uk were moved to a new virtual host called intranet.cs.man.ac.uk.
• The new external-facing content was given the website address of www.cs.manchester.ac.uk and published.
• Redirects were set up to allow as many of the old URIs to work unchanged as possible.
• Some pages had to be edited to allow for the location change of the old content in the filestore (from /home/webpages to /home/webpages/intranet).
• Edits made to pages containing important URI changes.
• Page footers and 404 pages were updated.
• New/updated home pages were made for legacy sites.
• Changes made to is4 (which allows csonly files to be viewed outside the School) to accommodate new locations.

Still to do:

• IMG research pages need updating by maintainer to allow for location change.
• PHP requires rebuilding on server to include support for new libraries needed. The lack of these libraries mean that the search boxes do not work, and information cannot be sucked dynamically from Campus Solutions. When this is complete I will also be able to request the centre to construct search databases for intranet.cs.man.ac.uk so we have a working search function restored.
• Changes to the logging, awstats and Google Analytics setup need to be made.
• Our wiki has not survived the change of location and loss of www.cs.manchester.ac.uk, which needs to be addressed.
